Veganuary has blasted Boris Johnson‘s claim that veganism is a ‘crime against cheese lovers’.
The prime minister made the comments during an interview with BBC Breakfast, when presenter Dan Walker asked him about his 2020 resolution to lose weight – and asked if he would be ditching meat and dairy products from his diet. Johnson said it would require ‘too much concentration’.
He added that while he ‘tipped his hat off to vegans who can handle it’, a vegan diet is ‘a crime against cheese lovers’.
‘Outdated and untrue’
But Toni Vernelli, Veganuary’s International Head of Communications, says these opinions are far from the truth.
“The idea that trying vegan means depriving yourself of cheesy foods is outdated and untrue,” she said in a statement sent to Plant Based News. Vegan-friendly cheeses are available in every grocery store and you can now even upgrade to vegan cheese at Papa John’s and Pizza Hut. There are really no more excuses.
