A vacation cottage for rent, a strange request to fulfill, a mysterious host, and guests who come with burdened hearts seeking peace. Set in the beauty of Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island on the stunning coast of Maine.

The story begins:

The impact of the crash woke her, panic clutching at her heart, squeezing her throat. She sat bolt upright in her bed, gasping for breath, eyes wide with horror. The early morning light touched the dark corners of the room, landed gently on the brightly colored quilt wrapped in confused contours around her legs. She looked around the room, trying to calm her night terrors. All was familiar and far from the horror she’d seen in her dreams. She felt the peace returning, creeping quietly like the mist over Seal Cove. She reached for her silk robe, soft peach, sliding its shimmering lightness over her back and arms, hiding the ugliness of the scars that would never fade. Much to be done, she reminded herself with gentle sternness.
Folks are coming.

Here you’ll meet a host of characters so familiar you will wonder where you know them from. Each character comes to stay for a week at a vacation cottage. They carry with them all the hurts of every day living. Can they find peace in the magic of Acadia?
Courtney and Jeremy are a young couple on the verge of divorce. She is ready to start a family, but Jeremy seems like a stranger to her. They’ve grown so far apart, she wonders if her dreams of a family will ever come true. And Jeremy comes with a story of his own. Can the couple find a way past their differences, or is it as Courtney expects, the end of their marriage?
Six year old, Violet, comes to Acadia with her parents, David and Lily, after the family as suffered a devastating loss. She is a lover of cats and gardens and sparkly things, and soon finds her way through the gate and into the heart of her mysterious neighbor. While David and Lily struggle to come to terms with their loss, Violet knows secrets they do not understand.
Lorna and her husband planned this trip as a retirement celebration. Instead, she turns up alone and broken-hearted. Her carefully planned life has fallen apart. She faces a future she never expected…alone and looking at impending old age. Can she find her way to a new life? Is she too old to re-write her story?
Susan and Henry have reached middle age with nothing but failed relationships behind them. They escape from the busy-ness of their day-to-day lives to a cottage Henry knows well. Is love still possible for two lonely hearts?
And, weaving her own story throughout is their mysterious host, Dominique. How did a woman from a tropical island end up on a decidedly not-tropical island? What are the scars she hides beneath her clothing? Surely, she must have her own story to tell.
